Mandatory NIN Registration for JAMB Non-Regular Programme Candidates (2024/2025 Update)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new policy requiring the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for all candidates seeking admission into non-regular programmes in Nigerian tertiary institutions. This includes those applying for admission into NOUN, Distance Learning, Part-Time, and Sandwich programmes.

    📌 Who Does This Affect?

This advisory applies to all prospective candidates applying to study under the non-regular mode of study in Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions. Whether you’re considering part-time, distance learning, or NOUN programmes, you must now comply with this new NIN-based registration process.

    đź”’ Why the NIN Requirement?

The decision is part of JAMB's strategy to eliminate fraud and stop candidates from manipulating admission processes through multiple identities or compromised records. All Nigerian applicants for regular or non-regular study must now provide their NIN at the point of registration.

    📝 Step-by-Step Process for Non-Regular Admission Candidates

    1. Create a JAMB Profile: Candidates must first generate their profile by sending their NIN via SMS to JAMB’s shortcode (55019 or 66019) using their phone number.
    2. Proceed to CBT Centre: After the profile is created, candidates must visit a certified JAMB CBT centre to complete their registration.
    3. Institution CAPS Upload: The candidate’s details will be uploaded to the CAPS of their institution of choice under non-regular admissions.
    4. Admission Proposal: The institution will recommend qualified candidates to JAMB, after which candidates will be able to print their admission letter via the JAMB portal.

    đź“‚ What About Returning Candidates?

Candidates who had previously applied through non-regular programmes and haven’t yet linked their NIN or phone number to JAMB must now do so. They must create a profile using their NIN to access any JAMB services going forward.

    đźš« Important Restrictions

    • No candidate is allowed to use this process to edit or modify data already submitted to JAMB.
    • JAMB stresses that this process is only for candidates applying through the non-regular route.

    đź“… When Can I Register?

JAMB assures that the registration portal will remain open all year round to accommodate the flexibility needed by candidates pursuing non-regular studies. You can begin registration as soon as you're ready by following the steps above.

    đź’° Payment to Institutions

Candidates will be required to pay a processing fee to their institution of choice, as determined by each school. JAMB only facilitates the admission process.

    âś… Final Note

All concerned institutions and candidates are advised to follow these guidelines strictly. Compliance with the new NIN requirement is mandatory for all non-regular admission seekers for the 2024/2025 academic session.

    Please be guided accordingly.
