SIWES (Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme) logbook is the official record of your activities and learning during your industrial training. Use it to document dates, tasks performed, equipment or software used, and the skills you developed — write clearly and professionally, keep entries chronological, and use past tense for completed work.

For each entry include the date, a concise description of the task, tools/materials used, the outcome or result, any challenges and how you addressed them, and the time spent; end entries with your supervisor’s signature or stamp where required. Back up your logbook regularly (photocopy or scan) and review entries with your supervisor to ensure accuracy before final submission, and you can learn more about the differences between SIWES and Industrial Training (I.T) in polytechnics here.

What is the SIWES Logbook for?

The SIWES logbook is designed to help students keep a detailed record of their daily industrial training activities. It serves as a structured document for monitoring progress, assessing skills acquired, and providing evidence of practical experience gained in the workplace during the SIWES program.

    What Each Logbook Page Contains

    • Date: The specific day or week the activity took place.
    • Work Description: A brief summary of the tasks you carried out or observed.
    • Tools/Equipment Used: List of materials, tools, or software applied in completing the task.
    • Observations: Key things you learned, discovered, or noticed during the activity.
    • Remarks: Additional notes or comments about the work done or challenges faced.
    • Supervisor’s Comments and Signature: For confirmation and assessment of the recorded activities.
