In recent times, social media and online platforms have been buzzing with claims that the Federal Government has scrapped the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This has left many students, parents, and educators confused about the truth of the matter. If you’ve been wondering whether JAMB has truly been abolished or replaced, this article breaks down the facts and clarifies everything you need to know about the current admission process in Nigeria.

The reality is that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has not been abolished by the Federal Government.

What the government has done instead is to introduce additional admission options that give higher institutions more flexibility to admit students through other officially approved processes.

With these new guidelines, schools can now offer admission to qualified candidates directly, based on their O’Level performance and other recognized requirements.

JAMB is still fully functional and remains the primary and most accepted pathway for gaining admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

In essence, institutions now have the choice to combine these new admission alternatives with the JAMB process if they wish.

Therefore, any claim or rumour that JAMB has been cancelled, scrapped, or replaced is completely untrue.
