In a recent statement shared by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @JAMBHQ, the Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, announced the establishment and approval of three new universities eligible to admit students starting from the 2025 UTME admission cycle.

This move signifies a positive step toward expanding access to higher education in Nigeria and addressing the growing demand for university placements. The development comes at a time when many qualified candidates are unable to secure admission into existing universities due to limited slots.

List of the Newly Approved Universities

According to Professor Oloyede, the new institutions approved by JAMB for 2025 UTME admissions include:

    • Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State - A specialized institution focused on teacher training and education.
    • Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, Adamawa State - A new federal institution dedicated to agricultural development, research, and food security.
    • Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo Town, Ondo State - Upgraded from a college of education to a full university with degree-granting status.

What This Means for UTME Candidates

Prof. Oloyede advised that eligible 2025 UTME candidates who are interested in studying at any of these new institutions should apply for a change of institution through the official JAMB portal, selecting one of the new universities as their first choice.

Early applications are encouraged as these institutions are expected to have more admission opportunities compared to more competitive, well-established universities.

    Who Can Apply?

Only candidates who registered and sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are eligible to apply. Students who did not participate in the UTME will not be considered for admission under any circumstance.

JAMB’s Instruction to the New Universities

JAMB has directed the three new universities to re-publicize the announcement and inform candidates about the availability of programs, admission requirements, and how to apply.

The universities are expected to use their official websites, social media, and outreach campaigns to make the public aware of these opportunities.

    No Regularization or Backdoor Admission

In a firm warning, JAMB stated that there will be no room for admission regularization or illegal entries into the system. Candidates who attempt to gain admission without taking the 2025 UTME will be rejected.

    Why These Universities Matter

These institutions are crucial additions to Nigeria’s higher education landscape. They will help:

    • Provide more admission opportunities to UTME candidates
    • Expand educational access in underserved regions like Adamawa and Ondo
    • Support national goals in education and agriculture
    • Reduce pressure on already oversubscribed universities

    Tips for Interested Candidates

If you’re a 2025 UTME candidate considering these institutions, follow these tips:

    • Act Quickly: Log in to the JAMB portal and apply for a change of institution.
    • Do Your Research: Learn more about available programs and choose the one best suited to your interests and career path.
    • Prepare for Post-UTME: These universities may conduct screening or tests—stay ready.
    • Follow Updates: Stay informed through JAMB and school channels.

    Conclusion

The approval of these three universities reflects JAMB’s commitment to expanding educational access and reducing the challenges students face in gaining university admission. For thousands of candidates, this is a golden opportunity to pursue their academic dreams in institutions specifically designed to meet national development goals.

If you’re eligible and interested, don’t wait — apply now and take the first step toward a successful future!
